Has America ever seen a traditional Irish pub driving down Interstate 95?! Well, it has now, because The Shebeen has arrived Stateside!
The Connemara Shebeen (the youngest member of the Shebeen family) has been spotted in Massachusetts, New York, New Hampshire and Connecticut since making the epic journey from Clarinbridge, Co. Galway, across the Atlantic ocean, avoiding icebergs and storms, whales and pirates to arrive safely in Port Newark this week.
Creator John Walsh explains; “The interest in Ireland has been huge since we built the first Shebeen in 2014, and with more and more enquiries coming from the States over the last 12 months, we felt we had to visit America to personally introduce our little pub on wheels! So, in February 2016, we departed the west of Ireland leaving the Wild Atlantic Way behind us, and dropped the Connemara Shebeen to Dublin port for its first trip abroad! The decision to come here to Boston was an easy one given my own connections (we have family living here just south of the city). And with an estimated 33 million Americans having Irish ancestry, it’s a pleasure to be able to deliver an authentic little piece of Ireland to the US market”.
Throughout March, we will be taking part in the Newport and South Boston parades, meeting the media, hosting open days, and we look forward to the American people experiencing the Shebeen firsthand! John has travelled with just the ‘Connemara’ member of the Shebeen family. But with the overwhelming response that has greeted our little pub’s arrival Stateside, the Shebeen family is expected to grow in the coming months and years. And we’ve only just started our American adventure!
